TANIA GROVES (17). Her glossy hair is pulled in a strict ponytail, not a single hair out of place. A blazer, embroidered with a logo of a lion, rests on her shoulders A dangerous smirk plays in the corners of her lips. Her eyes land on a boy in the far corner. CONNER MARTIN (17), half hidden behind his open locker door. A large leather jacket swallows his thin form. His eyes widen in horror as he spots Tania approaching from behind his locker door. Strands of hair drift beside her face. Deep bags surround eyes holding the depths of sadness. Trauma rests unbidden below the surface. She is tired, so very tired. One finger rests on a book. Her head turns slightly, peeking at a group of boys whispering together. Some glance over at her, then look away, guilty. She watches them, gaze hungry. The bell rings. The group scatters, the corridor filling with people. Lily doesn't move, staring into her locker even as people stampede behind her. The corridor clears and Lily breaths out. A lamp swings in her hand, soft orange light creeping into the cracks and crevices of the old stone. Cathleen is on a mission, and she is determined. Her eyes spark with confidence behind her nun's veil, and her lips are pursed in focus. Control and power seeps from every of her being, and she moves with the irrevocable faith of those with true faith. A thick key is held tightly in her other hand. This she holds with pride, with the knowledge that this task has been placed to her, and only to her. She smiles, safe in her knowledge that this is the path God called her towards, and that the path is calling back. The corridor comes to an end, and she stops, setting the lamp down with a clank. She holds the key out reverently, and places it into the lock. A look of pride passes across her face. She turns the key. Gears grind against one another, whining ...

The headlights beam out, revealing only the shadowy edges of trees. A GIRL (11) comes into view, bright white in the headlights. She is standing in the middle of the road, right in the path of the car. DAUGHTER Stop! The car swerves. Dirt flies up into the air. The car squeals to a halt, an inch away from the girl. Father and daughter sit frozen, panic bare on their faces. The daughter climbs out of the car. The girl is still there, not moved. DAUGHTER Are you alright? GIRL I need a ride to my uncle's house, please. The daughter looks back at her father. He pauses in thought, then nods shakily. She extends a hand to the girl, who ignores it, climbing in the back of the car. The daughter returns to her seat, exchanging a confused look with her father.
